A couple shoot, I believe is a date with the camera and hence it is extremely important to dress up for this date like you would for any other. Your date might not tell you how hideous your dress looks or how badly your hair has been done, but the camera definitely will! So make sure you take enough care in dressing up before stepping out for your couple shoot. I am no fashion maestro, but I can definitely give you some tips on what my life partner and your date for the day will be like. (Don’t let your thoughts run wild; I am just talking about my cam ;-))
This is ranked number 1 for a reason and hence make sure never to break this rule. Mixing up colors and textures adds depth to the pictures. Also, similar clothes look cute on babies, not on two fully grown individuals.
The whole idea behind this shoot is to create some memories which can bring a smile to your face every time you take a look at these pictures. This is not going to be possible when you are not comfortable and the last thing you want is to be uncomfortable in your own clothes. So wear something that will help you be your natural self.
Complicated patterns can be very disturbing to the eye and so it definitely is not a hit with photographers. Simple is still elegant!
There has to be a coordination with the dress you wear and the location of the shoot. For instance, if you are getting your couple shoot done in a park with a lot of greenery and you are wearing green, chances are that you will be mistaken for another tree in the picture.
A simple dress topped up with some funky accessories like sunglasses, clutches, etc. is what will make you look classy. Also, this gives the photographers some room to work around with the pictures.
Now, let’s face it, makeup is not going to make you any prettier than what you are, but it will hide some of those flaws which you always want to ;-)! Just kidding! The amount of difference that makeup can bring to the pictures is unparalleled and it is extremely important that you hire a professional for this job. Also, make sure that you tell the make-up artist where and when the shoot is going to happen so that he/she can do up your face and hair accordingly. For instance, you don’t want to let your hair open in a windy location and end up looking like a hippy in your pictures.
While we are on this topic, there is one point which needs special mention:
Punctuality: While we always expect the photographer to be on-time, we ourselves take the liberty to be late by a few minutes or even hours. When you have come to a consensus with your photographer on a particular location and time, make sure to adhere to it. This is not because it is unethical to keep someone waiting for you, but because the photographer plans your shoot according to the light, weather, and other factors. Your pictures are a direct reflection of these factors and chances are that the results might be disappointing if these factors are not in favor.
So, be on time, look dashing and show some love to the cam – This is the formula to rock your couple shoot!
